Christian Medical College, Vellore

The Christian Medical College, Vellore, has a rich tradition in health care spanning over more than a century.

Established in the year 1900 by Ida Sophia Scudder in the city of Vellore in Tamil Nadu, it has emerged as one of the best and most sought after medical colleges in India. A witness to the death of three young women during child birth in India, owing to the obsolete medical practices and sheer ignorance, Ida, then decided to dedicate her life to providing medical services to the Indian population.

Started as a one-bed clinic, CMC now accommodates more than 5500 outpatients and about 2500 inpatients on a daily basis. The institute is owned and managed by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association. A number of distinctive features sets apart CMC from hordes of other medical colleges in the country and makes it a truly top medical college in every aspect. T
raining is provided by thorough professionals who themselves involve in all the administrative and clinical aspects of the hospital. A stand out feature of this medical college is the unmatched emphasis laid on community medicine and the setting up of rural community and secondary hospitals, keeping up with the tradition started by the founder of the institution.
